GYA Camp-2013

[27th July – 2nd August]

Golden Youth Award Camp, 2013 was held in Thimphu Nazhoen- Pelri from 27th July to 2nd August, 2013. There were 80 participants; 2 boys and 2 girls from each of 20 dzongkhangs. Unfortunately, one of the girls from Tashigang missed the opportunity due to some unavoidable circumstances.

Firstly, let me introduce you to some of the areas of focused during the camp.

During our six days of YAD camp, these were some of the focus of our program; literacy, cultural, talents, games and sports and social services that we whole heartedly took part.

It was a very great moment for me to meet with popular singers and actors during our talent show namely T. Sonam, L. Dema, Ugyen Panday, Dechen Pem and Lhamo Drukpa. One of my friends from Bartsham MSS said that he had never met them personally, but have seen them only in TV. He was very happy that GYA has provided him with such an opportunity.

On the first day of our camp, we had orientation program, followed by GK and IQ test the following day. On the 3rd day, we had games and sports in the morning and extempore speech in the afternoon. We had talents and cultural show on the 4th day of the camp. The final day of the camp concluded with the closing ceremony blessed by His Excellency the Prime Minister and other cabinet ministers.

The Prime minister highlighted the words of His Majesty the 4th Druk Gyalpo, “the future of our country lies in the hand of youth” and with other words of wisdom to the participants.

By attending such program it has really inspired me to build one’s courage, show-cast my hidden talents and to build friendship for happy co-existence. It has really encouraged me to be a hardworking student and be the active member in any co-curricular activities. It really is the lifetime golden opportunity and if one wins the GYA, students get opportunity to continue his/her studies in the UWC (United World College). This year the title of the GYA was awarded to Rinzin Choden of P.H.S.S.

So I urge my friends to study hard, actively participate in any activities in the school and be socially productive citizen. So, definitely the door is open for you.

For me, taking part in the GYA itself was a god sent, because I learnt a lot.

I am very much privileged to have got selected to attend GYA programme from Zhemgang Dzongkhag, and for this I would like to firstly thank the Principal and the selection committee of Yebilaptsa  MSS for having chosen me to represent the school and the Dzongkhag Education Office for nominating me to represent Zhemgang Dzongkhag.

Thank you very much
