A quantitative analysis of distributed leadership in practice: Teachers' perception of their engagement in four dimensions of distributed leadership in Bhutanese schools

Duration: 90 minutes

Presenter: Mr. Kelzang Tashi

Scope and the significance of Distributed Leadership

The PD program on 21st Century Leaderships, unambiguously centered on Distributed Leadership has been conducted on 18th April striving to provide insight and information to administrators, practitioners, teachers, and researchers about practice of distributed leadership. As schools are increasingly under public scrutiny, principals are becoming more accountable to expectations of school improvement. Moreover the management appears more complex as the school becomes larger in all aspects thus demanding to distribute leadership tasks among others. Unlike in traditional leaderships, it has been evident in researches that leadership should be distributed throughout the teachers rather than concentrated in one position for the improvement of the school. Recent studies of schools invariably identify the principal’s leadership as a factor in a school’s success.

Additionally, in presenting the independent research findings, it aims to support school in becoming more aware of their own leadership perceptions and practices, with particular reference to the possibilities offered by distributed leadership to positively influence teaching and learning. The outcome of the PD program will hopefully provide useful insights to advance leadership practices in Bhutanese school settings. Furthermore, the presentation on the findings, will not only contribute to a limited literature on education administration but will also encourage principals in Bhutan to employ distributed style of leadership. Therefore, this presentation has dual purpose of being a guide to other school leaders thinking about adopting distributed leadership and an aid to those schools already employing the distributed leadership or similar model. Lastly, realizing the importance of principal leadership across the world, this PD program may be significant in tempting principals to employ distributed leadership which would in turn bring significant changes in their school.

Updating and uploading the articles and information on our webpage is quite easy so long as one is interested and keen to explore on their own, said webmaster Mr. Sonam Leki, On 28th march, 2014. He made a short and informative presentation on the same topic making it user-friendly to all the staff of the school. The aim was targeted in creating user-friendly school web and also to encourage use of ICT in our profession and everyday schedule as well.
