The 2012 Reading Week programme- a huge success!

The school observed Reading Week from 3rd to 8th September 2012.  The theme of the reading week for the academic year 2012 was resolved as 'Read for peace, Joy Boomerangs'.

The objectives of organizing the Reading Week programme are as follows:

  1.  Highlight on the importance of reading
  2. To inculcate reading culture in the school.
  3. Engage students in mindful reading through literary activities.
  4. Celebrate World Literacy Day.
  5. Familiarize the student mass on the usage of Dzongkha-English terms
  6. Highlight on the importance of  both Dzongkha and English language

  Activities carried out:

The Literary and UNESCO club had updated the board with relevant reading materials

                     1.Morning speeches.

·   Literary and UNESCO club members spoke on the importance of    

Reading and also demonstrated reading

·    Literary in charge addressed the gathering on the dying culture of reading. We focused on need to keep it alive. 

      2.   Silent reading.

Students had free access to library and select a book of their choice.

Every10 minutes from each period were reduced to make 7th period which was dedicated for reading. Students observed silent and mindful reading during the period under the watchful guidance of class teachers.

     3.       Wall magazine context

All the classes were required to prepare wall magazine. A panel of judges evaluated the magazine on the closing day before the result declaration. The criteria for judgment are: variety, creativity, presentation and class participation.


4.      World   Literacy day observed.  

On 8th Sept., the world literacy day was observed. Since the theme for the world literacy day is Literacy for Peace. The literary in charges invited the UNESCO club coordinator to speak and mark the importance of Literacy in achieving peace.

 5.      Dzongkha-English  Translation

On the closing of the reading week,  a new literary activity was organizedl i.e. Dzongkha – English  Translation competition  among the four houses.

 6.      Awarding of certificates and prizes.

The results of the wall magazine and translation were declared on the closing day. The winners were awarded attractive prizes along with certificate of merit.
