Honourable Speaker of National Assembly Visits Yebi MSS.

30, August. Honourable Speaker of the National Assembly Jigme Zangpo visited Yebilaptsa Middle Secondary School, he was accompanied by Dasho Dzongda, Officer Commanding of Zhemgang Dzongkhag and the other sector heads.

Upon the arrival at around 2:30 PM, he was received by the teaching faculty of YMSS, Yebilaptsa Hospital staff and the captains. The speaker and the visiting officials were ushered in the MP Hall. He began his talk with the reminiscence of when and how the school was established among the 33 similar schools throughout country through ADB Funding.  He also reminded the students regarding the change in the attitude and outlook of the students in urban schools and how it has become one of the biggest challenge to our country. He shared to the students about the difficulties they had to undergo to get education some decades ago when compared to the present times.   So he reminded the students to be grateful our monarchs and our forefathers for making their life very comfortable.

Speakers Visit

The other important issue that he shared to the gathering was about the present political system in our country and the decision making process in the parliament house. He said that people get confused regarding the parliament house and think that the National Assembly and National Council members as different entity in the Parliament. He said that the Parliament consist of the King, Member of MP and the member of NC which are collectively responsible for making decision. He reminded the students that as students they should educate their parents regarding many disturbing issue and rumors that are passed by the disgruntled few which creates rift between the Bhutanese people. He also advised the students to study hard and draw inspiration from some people who have worked hard and succeeded in their life.

Following the talk, a number of students asked questions related to national concerns and the issues that pertains to the change in the national education structure. In response to those questions he reminded students to make use of their education that they have acquired in order to intelligent decision that would influence their life. With regard to the school rationalization issue, he shared what has been presented by the Education Minister regarding the problems that exist due to largeness in the number of schools in our country. He shared that many issues such as teacher shortage, quality education and resource shortage can be curbed through this effort. He also presented a set of books and Ngultrum Two Thousand Five Hundred to the school.

The programe ended at around 5:30 PM. The school hosted dinner to all the guests, few cultural items were presented by the students.

On 31, August morning, the school teachers and the captain came to see off the Honourable speaker and his team. After breakfast, they visited yebilaptsa hospital and left for Gelegphug at around 10:30 AM.
